Leap Castle, Ireland

Leap Castle was built during the 1300s by the O’Bannon clan. The castle has a very grim history of more than 700 years and is the location of countless battles between clans and later family feuds within the clan as well.

Mike Searle

O’Carrolls was a violent and supposedly evil clan who battled the O’Bannons for the castle before finally taking control of the castle in the 1500’s. Before the violent disposition of the castle the land was already a place for many deaths because of the battle. However, the history of the castle became even more grim from then on. O’Carrolls were ruthless people who did not show any mercy. When the head died, there was a family feud between the brothers for power. One brother killed the other while the latter was holding a mass for family members in the chapel which is now known as “bloody chapel”.

Gioele Fazzeri

The ownership was passed again in the later 1600s to the Darby family and the fighting for ownership and power continued on till the 1900s when the castle had already been passed on to many different people. The brutal history of the castle was already well known but the magnitude of the inhumanity brought upon the people was revealed once again when the restoration work was started in the castle in the late 1900s a wall was removed which revealed hundreds and hundreds of human skeletons lying on spikes which belong to guests who were supposedly thrown from upper floors to kill them. From the evidence found on the victims, it is believed that these murders occurred till the 1800s which means not only the O’Carrolls but the families that owned the castle after them also committed the same crimes.

There are many known spirits said to roam the castle and its grounds. The spirit of the murdered brother is said to haunt the bloody chapel. For hundreds of years people have seen light coming out of its windows and the spirit roaming around the chapel.

The spirit of the two little girls that supposedly lived in the castle during the 1600s have been spotted by visitors playing in the main hall of the castle. They are sometimes even spotted along with an old woman referred to as the nanny.

Florian Olivo

A Red lady is also seen roaming in the halls of the castle holding the dagger in one hand.

The spirit that has frightened people for the longest period of time and some people believe that the spirit existed even before all those families started living there. An evil demonic entity known as the “Elemental”. This malevolent being is said to have been unleashed on the castle through black arts which according to some might have happened during the early days of the castle. But a former resident “Mildred Darby” who had the first known experience with the evil entity describes her terrible encounter. It is said that she started practicing dark arts which led to the release of the elemental spirit. She describes it as being the size of a sheep, an inhuman skeletal face and dark decomposed eyes. The horrible smell that was already present in the castle intensified a hundred times. It was the smell of a decomposing body.

The elemental does not show itself until it is bothered by people but people have reported being pushed, badly scratched and feeling extremely nauseated.

The castle is described by many as the most haunted place in Ireland and definitely one of the most haunted places in the world.

While researching about Leap Castle, i came to know that Sam and Colby visited the castle just recently and as I am a big fan of Sam and Colby i watch all the videos as soon as they are uploaded on YouTube. However, this time i didn’t because i wanted to see how well I have researched.

Nee Soon Rubber Estate, Singapore

Lim nee soon in the office (Singapore agency)

Nee soon rubber estate was established in the early 19th century in the town of Yishun. Lim Nee Soon, a businessman started the rubber estate before expanding his rubber plantations in the towns of Sembawang and seletar as well. The plantation was so important not only for lim nee soon but also for the other residents of the town. Infact the businessman became so much of an influential figure that the town Yishun is named after him.

KTPH

The rubber plantation was spread over a massive area with rows and rows of rubber trees that can be seen for several kilometres. According to Malaysian and Indonesian folklore, pontianaks likes to reside on rubber trees. Pontianaks are vengeful female spirits who are said to have died during child birth. They have long hair, long sharp nails and are dressed in white. They lure unsuspecting men, rip through their internal organs and feed on them.

Fast forward to several decades later. The plantation is now gone and new buildings and roads have been built instead. The area is now a residential place. However, pontianaks do not easily move on from a particular location and with the rubber trees now gone, these spirits have now found a way inside the homes of the residents. Residents have claimed to witness the pontianaks on or from their balconies and even heard their names being called when they are alone. People also hear whispers in the darkness. Even people passing by from that area have heard their names being called. It is said that if you hear your name from far away, it means that the pontianak is nearby and if you are your name being called loudly that means that the pontianak is far away.

I’ve posted this story so it might seem familiar: Something reminiscent of slender man. Obviously slenderman is a creepy pasta but this isn’t slender man. There’s a farm behind my house, separated by a canal. The farm stretches maybe about 1000 feet back before it hits a tree line. A couple weeks ago, I was eating dinner and was staring out at the farm. It was maybe 20 minutes until nightfall. I saw what looked like a really tall, gray version of Gumby walk out of the tree line, take two really large lunges, then disappear back into the tree line. It was much too tall to be a person. The next night, at the same time, the same exact thing happened except my parents were with me. I asked them if they saw that and they just said “saw what?”. Then it happened AGAIN the third night. So either my body its giving me random hallucinations in sync with my bodies time clock or there’s some weird Slendergumby demon living on the farm behind my house. I haven’t been home much recently so haven’t been able to look for it again but if I’m able to, I’m gonna try and take a picture. I don’t know how well that will work given the distance that I see it, but I can try.

I was on a cub scout campout somewhere in the woods by Knob Noster, Missouri. My friends were back at camp and was in the woods by the campsite, there was this fallen tree that was angled and we spent most of this campout trying to climb it, so I was halfway up the tree when looked to my right and a large hairy Orangutang looking creature was looking at me and grinning. I was 7 years old, not on drugs, and I saw an honest to god Sasquatch.

I was in my brother’s room a few years ago when something strange happened with a balloon.

My brother had a red balloon in his room (don’t know where he got it from) and I was just hanging out in there with my mom. My brother was on his bed, my mom was sitting in a chair, and I was standing near the door. Now this red balloon was about 4 feet away from me, pushed up against the ceiling. I was looking in the balloon’s direction and all of a sudden it just falls halfway to the ground and shoots back up again. Everyone in the room saw it and I FREAKED out and sprinted back into my room terrified. My brother was going crazy while I was freaked the hell once and my mom was trying to calm us back. No one was in arm’s reach for the balloon or its string and it suddenly fell down and shot back up again.

I was around 12 when this happened to me. During the time my brother and I shared a room and had bunk beds. He had the top bed while had the bottom. The room was quite long but really skinny, almost a L shape if you will.

Anyways, I remembered waking up late one night. At the time I could not figure out what I was feeling, but now I could describe it as dread and extreme anxiety. I stood up out of bed and checked to see my brother sleeping. As I turned towards the doorway, noticed it was open. This was odd because we always slept with the door closed to keep the cat out.

As walked towards the door to shut it, I could see a shadow in the doorway that was illuminated by the hallway nightlight my dad has set up for us. I peeked around the corner and that was when I saw…whatever it was I saw.

In the door way was a massive figure. If had to guess, probably around 6’6-6’7. Extremely lanky the only detail I could make out was it’s long skinny arms and it’s eyes, which were red. I remember staring at it for a couple seconds before it entered the room, having to bend at the waist just to get underneath the door frame. The last thing I remember was it rapidly approaching the bunk bed then it goes blank. I woke up on the floor early the next morning. I told my dad about it the next day but of course he chalked it up to a bad dream and realistically he was probably right. It is just difficult to get over the fact that to this day still remember whatever was in the doorway and the exact feeling I had from start to finish. The final thing about the encounter that convinced me something happened that night was my brother. About 2 days later he pulled off his shirt and he had what looked like 3 insect bite marks on his upper right back, forming a triangle. They went away relatively fast but to this day he has a mole in the direct centre of where the “bites” where

My Mum’s Aboriginal, and as a kid, whenever we moved to a new place she’d always get to know all the blackfellas in town.

We made friends with a family who had an old Uncle (not gonna mention his real name on here, so we’ll just call him Jack). Uncle Jack used to spend a lot of time in the bush and he was fluent in the Noongar language.

He told us lots of yarns about little hairy humanoids called “woodarchies”. They’re well known among Noongar people and are mischievous and can torment you if you piss them off.

He told us one story that gave me chills as a kid. He was camping in his swag and his fire had died right down. He woke and there were four woodarchies surrounding him. Standing at his head, feet and either side like “points of a compass”.

He was too scared to move, so stayed stock still, trying not to look at them. At some point he drifted off to sleep and when he woke they were gone. They left a handful of rocks on his swag though.

I am going to write this on behalf of my mother, who passed away a year ago and saw and heard many things that the average person wouldn’t believe. To start, I live on a farm in a house that was built in the early 1900s. To date, four people have passed away in the house or near the house. My great great grandma died in a rocking chair. My great great grandpa was riding in a wagon down our driveway when his team of horses got spooked and he flew off and broke his neck. A hired man’s wife fell down our stairs while she was pregnant and hemorrhaged and died, and my aunt died in my old bedroom at age 2. Over the years, my mother and brother have experienced many different spooky things on our property. In the early 1980s, they both heard footsteps walking up and down our upstairs hallway in the middle of the night. My brother was alone once and he was outside doing farm choirs in the dark. He was maybe 500 feet from our house. He had the urge to look over and every single light in the house was on. My mom has heard people whispering her name, she’s heard creaking noises in the house, and sounds as if something had fallen (big crashes, etc.). My father has been oblivious to everything and has never heard any of it. In 2004, my mom went outside to fill our woodstove at about 10 p.m. On her way back to the house, she got the feeling that she was being watched. As she turned to look to her right, she saw this very skinny, gray being standing below our house staring over its shoulder at her. She got this intense feeling that it wanted her to see it. After a few seconds, it bolted away from the house. She was so freaked out that she sprinted into our house, locked the doors and collapsed on the floor in hysterics. For years, she’d never tell anyone the story. This was a particularly interesting experience, as in the late 1960s our neighbor just over the hill had gray aliens walk into his barn and actually talk to him. It was investigated by some big shot UFO investigator out of Chicago too. I personally had never heard or seen anything in our house until recently. Over the years, friends have came over and saw shadow people in our house, or hear the pitter patter of small dog feet on the floor upstairs. As said earlier, my mother passed away a year ago and we have her urn sitting on a table downstairs, just below my bedroom. For about three months, every night was in the home alone (my dad is a trucker so he’s gone for a week at a time with a five day break in between) would hear this pounding noise every 30 seconds coming from somewhere in the walls as tried to fall asleep. I’ve heard crashing noises and my dog has perked his ears up because of them. A lot of people are too freaked out to stay overnight at my house without my Dad being there, and I’m starting to get that way too.

When I was in college, I lived in a dorm for Native students. It was the first multicultural house in the Greek Village, and we were so proud. About 9 of us lived there. The college was built on our tribe’s old wintering grounds, and the school had disposed of things in a pretty shady way back in the 70s and 80s. Anyway, over the first few months we lived there, several of us noticed strange things. We weren’t comfortable by ourselves. We’d see black people shapes out of the corners of our eyes. Somebody even swore they had a conversation with me, when wasn’t in the house. They said the “me” was a bit off and vacant and strange, but they couldn’t figure out why. This happened with a few of us. Things were being broken and misplaced. We would hear strange wind noises sometimes. We finally went to someone in our tribe who dealt with things like this. He came and cleared the house with tobacco and water. We prayed, and cleansed ourselves. Two of us stayed in the house while he worked. I distinctly remember him walking through the darkened living room, opening the door, and hearing what sounded like a tornado whizz through the room very quickly. Then it was over. Turns out it wasn’t malevolent or anything. Just something that had attached itself to the land. We never had any problems after the cleansing.

I was a baby when this incident happened, but believe my sister, who was around 5 years old at the time.My cousins, aunts, and uncles were at a birthday party one Saturday at my grandmother’s house in Houston. All the adults were inside the house around dusk but the older cousins (ages ranging from 4 to 8) and my sister were outside, playing. My sister isn’t sure who noticed the bird in the tree first, but soon all of the cousins noticed it as well. A bird was perched on one of the lower branches just staring at them. Before their horified eyes, the bird began transforming until it was a woman. A woman sitting on the branch leering at them. As they began shouting and screaming for their parents, the woman became a bird again. By this time, the parents had come out to investigate the commotion but the bird wouldn’t budge. Not until my grandmother, a formidable and salt of the earth type of woman, went outside, did the bird fly off. The house is creepy. It’s still in the family and I’ve had some other strange experiences as did my mother (it was in the family since my parents were young teens). My cousin owns it now and it’s still creepy and old and he doesn’t really like living in the little yellow house either. In the beautiful roses my grandmother planted, strange things have been found. Animal bones, guts, melted candles, and other witchcraft type of things. A lady in white has been seen moving from room room in the past by house guests.

Local myth? There is a small, small, small playground next to a weird overpass in our city. Like, two swings and a slide. It’s so hard to get to, I don’t even know why the city put it there. It’s not lit for night use except by a single street lamp. If you use the overpass at night, it looks so eerie and sometimes the wind makes the swings move slowly. In high school, everyone would say a little girl died there and if you don’t hold your breath when going over the overpass, she’ll claim your soul.

I still hold my breath. And I’m 37.

The structure remains solidly locked, and no boats have been reported in the area when the sporadic illumination occurs.

Ever heard of a shin sales or a sheid.. A Jewish demon that can take different forms and drives people insane if your lucky enough to get away from it alive… The only way to combat it is by holding on to your thumb facing it and saying you and are one, then the shaid will say you and are two, then you must respond you and are three and repeat this until 101, all the while it drives you mad…

I live in upstate new York in the Adirondacks. And up here theirs always a sense of mystery in the air especially if you go to the more rural parts there’s bigfoot sightings strange happenings. Like for instance the tourism guide will tell you that cougars are extinct here however there have been many sightings of them my dad had personally saw a big cat dash across the road while on his way home from work. Along with the strange disappearance of one ted Nugent who was a pro hunter and ex army that just disappeared into thin air on a hunting trip. If you ever heard of missing 411 incidents this was one of them. It was said that when ted went missing the forest was dead silent (normally in the woods you hear something birds mice etc) anyway a few weeks ago I went out hunting solo I was sitting against a tree on top of a hill when suddenly the forest went dead quiet had a strong sense of being watched at first I played it off saying OH you’re just paranoid but as the sun went down the feeling got stronger and stronger until I said OK I’m just gonna cut this trip short. I grew up pretty close to this small town whose name means “fragrant water” in my local language. How did that come to be, you say? Well well well I’m glad you asked.

Apparently long long ago there’s a king who’s suspicious of his wife. He’s all like gurl you’re cheating, you gotta be! And the queen was like nooooo I’m not! I swear! But the king was not convinced, and kept accusing her. Eventually he decided that the queen is to be sentenced to death. Exasperated, the queen said: “fine, kill me. But then throw my body into this water right here and if I’m innocent the water will become fragrant,”.

The king was like LOL yea right, go die now. /stab

Well, she died. But they humored her and threw her body into the, uh… river or lake or whatever. It’s a body of water. Anyway, lo and behold, a strong flower fragrant starts wafting in the air, just as the queen said it would if she was innocent. The king fell to his knees, probably waving his fists to the clouds yelling a dramatic No0o0oo0000!!!

And then they named the town Fragrant Water. After this legend of a lady who died of shittyhusbanditis, an extremely common disease back in the day. I’ll let yall decide what message / lesson they’re trying to convey by naming their town after this legend. Think before you stab your wives, I guess?

The little town I lived in has a child’s grave in the older part of the cemetery. It is the only grave in the entire town that has a spiked fence and stones on top of where the body would be. It sticks out when you walk through the cemetery. Further, there is about 6-10 feet where there are no other graves, not the parents, no other kids or relatives. Local teens started circulating a myth that the child was born to a witch who was subsequently murdered after birthing the child. The myth goes that when the child died, they put spikes and stones on the grave to stop the child from rising and killing the towns people as the child would have been a witch as well. This myth circulated so widely that the cemetery put up a little board on the grave saying that the extras on the grave were to prevent animals from digging up the body. It didn’t make as much sense to the town teens as it’s was the only grave in town with those safety measures. People, mostly teens, still to this day go give gifts to the lonely child, lovingly refered to as the Witch Baby, from coins to stuffed animals and flowers.

Mcpike Mansion, Illinois.

Alton is an old small city in Madison County, Illinois. Alton was a home to native Americans for hundreds of years before the 19th century after which European Americans started settling in the city.

Greg Linscott

For a small town, Alton has seen a lot of deaths due to its long unreported history. About 1400 confederate soldiers died during the civil war because of smallpox outbreak and many unreported deaths later Alton became one of the most haunted cities in the whole country.

Blackdoll

The whole town is haunted but there are some locations that really stand out. One such location is the Mcpike mansion. Famous all over the country for its 11 or so ghost residents. The house was built between 1869 and 1871 on the highest point in Alton. Henry Mcgike a prominent member of the society and the Three time Mayor of the town moved into the house along with his family. They lived at the house till 1936 but the house was sold to Paul Laichinger who lived at the house till 1951. The house remained abandoned for years and fell in decay during those years due to vandalism. In 1994 Sharon and George Luedke bought the house in order to convert it into a hotel but they could not do so as they were unable to acquire any grant money for that purpose. But even with all those hindrances they managed to complete the renovations of the house through donations and opened the home for tours instead. They still host several ghost tours as well as historical tours. Although renovations around the house are still going on.

Aaron & Mariona

During the earlier renovations the first paranormal activity took place. Sharon was working on the garden one day and she saw a man staring at her from the second floor window. Later after doing some research about the house she found a picture of Paul Laichinger and quickly realized that it was the same person that she saw on the window.

Another spirit that has been spotted inside the house is believed to be Sarah. She used to be a servant in the house and is now a friendly ghost. Sharon often spots her inside the house and she doesn’t feel scared around her. Her spirit roams around in the attic.

Mcpikemansioncrew

The wine cellar is the most active place in the house. People hear footsteps and witness shadows and apparitions infront of their eyes. Often people feel sick around in the cellar although that might be due to the fact that people only visit the cellar during tours and it might get really congested during those tours. People have seen shadowy mist form in the cellar and follow them around. The heavy metal gate at the end of stairs usually takes a little bit of strength to open and close but people have seen it open on its own.

Other ghosts residing in the house include that of Mrs and Mr Mcpike and people have heard voices and footsteps of small children in the house, infact when Paul Laichinger used to live in the house and rented some of the rooms, his tenants often complained about hearing kids playing inside the house even when there were no kids present. The child spirits are believed to be the kids of Mcpikes who died young.

Up till now no one has ever witnessed any sort of evil entity inside the house. All the ghosts are friendly and welcoming.

The house is still under repair but people can still book tours and visit the house.

Driving all around the country is a pain for some while for others it is a pleasure and for those whose livelihoods include driving around the country it can be either of the two. While on long stretch of roads miles away from any sort of civilization, our mind often starts playing trick on us or maybe we really experience something strange or supernatural and as theres nobody with us to attest about this we try to rationalize these things as our mind playing tricks on us or highway hypnosis of some sort or it can be both. While we can’t say for sure which of these things plays a more important part here are some of those creepy experiences from long haul truckers.

I’m not a long haul trucker, but was on a kind of long road trip one night. Was about 1-2am. Saw a huge flash out towards the right rear passenger side. Almost like stadium lights turned on then off real quick. So bright and white, it was crazy. Thing is, I was on a major interstate, in the middle of a forest, no cars around me. My first thought was an angel or something.
To this day I’m still stumped.

A friend of my cousin was a long haul trucker. He was making a delivery across the country and was in a hardly used dirt stretch of a rural route. Since the road wasn’t exactly peachy he had to drive slowly.

He sees another truck slowly approaching from the opposite direction, and he sees the truck is the same as his. Since this isn’t fairly uncommon, he didn’t think much of it but as the other one grew closer he decided to honk in recognition of having the same kind of truck. The other one replies and all is good. That is, until they narrowly and very slowly had to pass one another. He turned to Iook at the driver and he saw himself. Not a reflection, not a similar person but his exact same copy, same clothes, same hat, same red beard, staring at him. They passed each other and that was that.

He told me he’d seen very weird things, but that was the moment he decided to stop being a trucker.

Myself and 2 friends had to drive from Laredo, TX to Baton Rouge, LA one night in my Ford van. It was about 2am. There is a particularly long and dark section of highway just outside Laredo…no buildings, towns or lights for about 50 miles.

I was in the right lane coming up on a truck and pulled out into the left passing lane. As was slowly overtaking this long truck, my peripheral vision caught a sudden movement of this big truck towards the right shoulder. saw the truck was swerving to avoid hitting a person dressed in all white, white face…who’s arms were folded across the chest and eyes were closed as they walked across the highway. swerved to the left and barely missed this ghostly looking person with my passenger mirror…can still remember seeing that the eyes were closed…that’s how close we came to hitting this person..

I’m a truck driver in the UK. Was driving through rural Scotland one night going down a country lane, all off a sudden start to see flashing lights come through the trees. Lights of all colours flashing through the trees and causing some really freaky looking shadows on the road.

I’m not a believer of aliens or anything but my first thought was ufos. Safe to say I put my foot down and got out of there.

Found out the next day it was rave happening in a field. But at the time it didn’t half scare me.

Not exactly at a road, but in the sky. I’m a pilot and usually fly around Florida. This specific night was out at around 11:30pm with a friend, flying down the eastern shoreline, when I suddenly see a medium-sized white light slowly start coming towards us, stop, and then go vertically into the ocean and disappear. Both my friend and saw it and we were completely speechless. Asked the air traffic control if there were any kind of aircraft around us and he told us we were the only aircraft in a 40 mile radius.

My grandfather was in the Air Force and one night he was driving (back to his base maybe??? can’t quite remember) and he saw a woman standing on the side of the road in a long white dress at about two AM. He circled back to ask if she needed help and she was nowhere to be seen.

He searched for her for about an before giving up, and deciding to leave it alone. When he decided to go on his way he had a strong feeling that he needed to switch lanes (he was on the road alone in the middle of the night so he had no idea why) and just ahead on the road there was a broken down truck with no hazards on that he would have hit, and probably been killed by, if he stayed in the lane he had been in.

To this day he’s convinced the woman was trying to warn him, like an omen or something.

Creepiest

Driving 40 1-30 through Texas and Arkansas, I would see what looked like animals/faces popping out of the bushes but longer than a glance proved nothing there. They had just paved the highway, and there was hardly any traffic. I was dead tired, it was super dark.
bypnosis suppose.

Paranormal

When I went to local driving, my route ran near an Air Reserve Base in Indiana, so you’d see planes and helicopters pretty often. One night, about 2 AM, I was headed to pick up another load when I saw a bright green light in the corner of my windshield. It was too low to be an aircraft. It moved pretty slowly, then darted and lost sight of it behind some trees drove by. Typical saw a UFO” shit, but I still think it was just a helicopter or a jet that saw at the prefect angle that turned after a takeoff. The jet pilots have broken the sound barrier over town a couple times in the past (sonic boom) so a jet flying abnormally isn’t necessarily out of the realm of possibility.

Just batshit carzy

Driving South on I-75 in the winter in Ohio, I witnessed a compact car like a Cobalt or similar get on the on-ramp to merge in to I-75 North and lost control. They went sideways, fell at least 6 feet off the ramp and onto the shoulder of the interstate landing on al 4 wheels, spun 360 degrees, and then proceeded to merge into traffic like it was fucking nothing. Blew. My. Fucking. Mind. The CB radio was going fucking nuts for about 5 minutes. “HOLY SHIT WHO ELSE JUST FUCKING SAW THAT?”, etc.

My dad has several stories from hauling logs in Idaho and driving trucks through Utah and Nevada. My favorite is from actually just in his pickup going through Utah. He said there was a light keeping pace with him out in the desert on a moonless night. It kept pace for a minute before it disappeared and his truck turned off. He stopped and turned it on and pulled off at the next diner. The folks in the diner called it a common occurrence.

The creepiest is when he was hauling logs in ldaho and was coming down from near Coeur d’alene area during a snowy winter night. He was putting on chains before heading down steep grade and said all of the hair stood up on his body. It felt like there was something watching him. Halfway down the switchbacks he saw a large figure standing on a 20 foot tall embankment. As he got closer it jumped down and the shoulders were as tall as the cab. In a single bound it leaped down and then leaped over to the other side of the embankment. At the time he thought it was a Sasquatch, now he says it was probably a “demon” trying to make him crash. He didn’t stop to remove the chains until he was well away from the mountain.

Woah that actually reminds me of a story. live in Spokane which is about 45 min away from Coeur d’alene. was driving back from my aunts in the dark one night and just hit a massive wall of fog. turn the corner and a whole herd of deer come running down the road toward me. I slow down a lot so dont hit them. Then after another few seconds see a woman standing im the street facing away from me with dirty clothes.

The area was in is known to have meth heads and heroin addicts so cracked the window and called out to her and asked if she needed me to call anyone. As soon as spoke her head whipped around and it looked like she was a burn victim; huge lidless eyes, no eyebrows, voldemort nose, and a mouth that looked like it was melted or sewn up or something. Then she ran off into the woods and I drove a lot faster than should have home.

Redditors describe their sleep paralysis experience.

Have you ever had that feeling where you feel like you are awake but you can’t move your body and it feels like there’s a heavy object on your chest ? If not then congratulations you are one of those lucky ones who have not experienced this creepy phenomenon “yet”. Many names have been used to describe this phenomenon, SLEEPING PARALYSIS or OLD HAG SYNDROME are perhaps the most common ones.

Apparently many people who experience this do it very frequently. While asleep people wake up but are not able to move their body and in that moment one can see shadows from the corner of their eyes , sometimes too close for comfort. There are many chilling stories related to sleeping paralysis. There is a scientific explanation for this phenomenon but mostly people who experience these disagree with these explanations.

During these sleep paralysis episodes people often witness some kind of sleep paralysis demons. They have different characteristics for every different person and can look really horrifying according to what some of the people might have described. This coupled with the fact that one cant even move or speak makes it alot more horrifying. Here are some of the stories of redditors who have witnessed these sleep paralysis demons.

You know, when I was younger (and still a little bit now) I believed that having sleep paralysis was halfway crossing over to another world or dimension. And the demons that would visit me knew I was a little lost, and that thier appearance might be jarring to me, as I was little.

And maybe the habit of just being non threatening and gentle never went away as I got older. I do recall one time I managed to let out this little scared whine, and I swore, the demon shushed me and gently patted my head.

Regardless of whether or not sleep paralysis demons are real, they certainly feel real. So weird. Also good to know that I’m not the only one who has harmless sleep demons.

I’ve a strange demon. He is old like 50 years, is bald somewhat and has a very satanic face with a beard. He grabs me from my back and sequezes me too much that I scream and scream until my mom or brother comes to my room to wake me up. This doesn’t happen when I am sleeping straight or on the left side but happens when I am sleeping on right. That means even without any weigh on my body I feel him. It has been 4 months since I last saw him. I am poor at drawing but I’ve seen him so much that I can describe his facial features.

3. u/Bloop_bleep_bloopp My first time it was a figure in a motorcycle helmet standing in the doorway of my room. My first time living away from home on my own. It feels like your mouth is sewn shut and your tongue isn’t there anyway even if you wanted to scream, and your body is stapled you the bed, or in some thick substance that doesn’t let you move. I get it less and less often as I get older (think messing around with drugs caused it) and now when I get it I can alter my breathing enough my boyfriend wakes up and can then wake me up. It’s bloody horrible though.

Through college and few years after I had sleep paralysis fairly often. It was never the same hallucination. The first experience was Samara from The Ring hanging over me and dripping water onto me (woke up drenched in sweat). I’ve also just seen the shadows of people on the wall while they spoke nonsense from the foot of my bed, seemingly with ill intent but I couldn’t understand them.

5. u/dreams-outrageous

Most of the time it was too dark for me to see, so it would just be the feeling of something pressing down on me, forcing me into the mattress, and usually accompanied by exaggerated house sounds or the sounds of nature outside of my window was open.

Usually whenever I have them, they appear in the corner of my room. They’re tall, and impossibly thin, with large and long hands, all pitch shadows with red circles where eyes should be. They sorta resemble people?

They usually just come up and sit on the edge of my bed, and pat my knee gently as if to comfort me. They aren’t mean or anything. They go between looking at me, and just looking at things around my room, reading posters, etc.

Eventually they sorta just… dissolve into thin air, and then they’re gone. Its a weird experience, but I’m glad its not deeply horrifying.

I used to have them when I was younger. I would always wake up and three blob-ish black masses would be at the foot of my bed. No faces but blacken (moreso than their bodies) and sunken in where their face should have been, no sharp lines or distinct figures. Just three separate blobs floor to about 6ft long. Couldn’t move, felt like I couldn’t breathe, and I would just have to lay there until they dissipated. They weren’t violent but felt malevolent. Felt like hours until they left but I had no sense of how much time would pass.

I would like to note that my mother made me collect dolls growing up and would put them in my room. I whole heartedly believe those keep the dead inside but that’s my opinion

7. u/mindfeces

There’s frequently an auditory component to my sleep paralysis.

I intuitively know “they” are on the other side of my bedroom door, soon to enter.

The auditory part consists of the times when I can “hear” (this is a bit more of a dreamlike sensation) savage knocking and rattling. That part is pure fucking torture.

Before I was diagnosed with narcolepsy and found out about sleep paralysis, I thought I had ghost encounters, with touching and telekinetic stuff and everything. This new information made sense of my life again.

9. Unknown

I’ve had sleep paralysis like twice. I never had any visual hallucinations though. Just auditory hallucinations. Both times it was the deafening sound of television or radio static. One of the times freaked me out because I had my radio on so I thought that something was messing with it. Tried to get up to see what was going on with it and realized I couldn’t move. Luckily I was familiar with sleep paralysis and was able to wake myself up.

Before I knew what sleep paralysis was thought I was straight up haunted…now I know otherwise.

The hallucinations and feeling like you’re buried under a ton of bricks is indeed scary.

What is worse though is that you feel a malevolent presence in the room and it is somehow exerting the paralyzing force onto you… that’s even more scary.

Those 3 things are all scary on their own and worse together but they are all rational fear responses to what is happening. Sleep paralysis fear feels different…it feels like on top of all of the above the chemical in your brain that makes you feel afraid is being injected into you. Pure. Fear. In your brain…completely irrational fear..on top of all the other stuff.

That’s the best I’ve way I’ve been able to describe the horror.
