Redditors describe a conversation or interaction with a physically normal stranger that left them wondering if they’d just talked to something non-human or supernatural (like an angel/ demon/ghost/alien/time traveller etc.)?

Was coming back on the plane from a very important job interview and I thought I blew it. I was spacing out during the entire flight and when the plane landed and I finally got up to grab my bags an older woman 3 aisles down from me looked straight at me and said “don’t worry, it’ll be ok. You’ll get it”.

I reflexively thanked her and ignored what she said but a few hours later I got a call that I got the job. Only then did I remember what she said.

I still don’t know why she said that and how she knew what my problem was.

Back in 1997, I was aged 8. I shared a room with my younger brother who was 4 at the time. We used to have our grandparents over for dinner most nights and it wasn’t uncommon for them to stay long after we had gone to bed. They would come and kiss us goodbye in bed when they were going to leave.

This one summers day, I woke up during the night and saw my grandad. It wasn’t unusual like said. I said “Hi Grandad, are you leaving now?”, he came and sat on my bed and said “Yes, I’m saying goodbye for now.” He kissed me and then went and sat on my brothers bed and said kissed him as well. Then he left. My childhood intuition picked up that he was a bit sad.

Next morning, I went into the kitchen to find my mum crying. She told me that my Grandad died last night of a sudden heart attack. I said “How can that be, I saw him last night, he came and said good night to me.” My mum said that my grandparents left shortly after I went to bed last night. I also remembered that my grandpa said goodbye and not goodnight.

It was quite a shock but at the same time a little comforting too. I don’t remember a lot from my childhood but this is a memory that wont forget.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the likes, awards and comments. Very much appreciated!

Not that exciting but……

I was walking in woods by the sea in southern England and I came across a rock formation that had a sign The Wishing Seat. It was rather like a giant throne, although obviously natural, not man-made. I sat on it, and, entirely frivously made a wish. As was sitting on it, a young family passed along the path in front me; a man, woman, boy, and girl, all very ordinary in dress and appearance but strikingly beautiful.

So the following year I was walking along the path again, but in a different month and at a different time of day. I came across the Wishing Seat again and sat on it, and the same family passed by again. The world is full of coincidences, some significant, and some not, but this seemed a rather a long coincidence.

This story is hard to explain, but still get shivers when I think of it.

He was a customer was helping out. Honestly there was nothing that really stood out with him. He was handsome, but in a normal way. He dressed normal. Talked normal. Was blandly friendly, as you are with strangers. Just a normal upper-middle class type guy. The only thing that really stood out was his blue eyes. Not in a goofy supernatural type way, he just had very very blue eyes.

But for some reason he made every hair on my neck stand on end. Alarm bells were going off in my head like crazy, all I wanted to do was hide. I have NEVER felt this way, before or since. Even when I was followed home by someone, have never felt such gut deep “you are in danger” as I did with this guy.

After ringing him through, he reached out to shake my hand. This is not common at all here, but out of politeness I took it and shook. And INSTANTLY got so nauseous I almost gagged. The moment I got nauseous he just held my hand and smiled, and something in that smile made me absolutely sure he knew what was feeling and he enjoyed it. I’m not religious in any way, but remember thinking in that moment “oh fuck, is this the devil?”

After he left was still so sick feeling had to go to the back and sit down.

I’m not sure if he was a serial killer or what, but to this day I have never experienced something even close to that encounter. I absolutely felt bone deep certainty that I was in some sort of danger. I felt every bit the prey.

It’s a hard story to explain, because it’s all based on feelings, so I haven’t told that many people about it. But to this day it is absolutely one of the scariest and weirdest things have experienced.

r/unknown I live in a small town, with very few black people around
(central Europe).

I was pretty down because of a girl, and went for kebab. While I was standing in a queue for kebab, in the pub right next to it, there was a woman that caught my attention, because of two things, initially because of her race that’s just uncommon to see there, another the fact that for sure never seen her before, despite living in this small town my entire life and going around this pub every day. Another thing I noticed was that she didn’t order anything, she just sat there by the table alone.

Then I ordered my food, and while waiting for it, the woman leaned over the fence that separates kebab place from the pub, looked directly at me and offered me an ice cream. I accepted the offer, and immidiatelly after that she looked me in the eyes, smiled a bit and clearly, clamly said,,I love you”.

Then as received my kebab, I turned around where she was, and she was gone. Vanished as quickly as she appeared.

I inspected the ice cream, and it seemed ok and package was intact, it was delicious.

TLDR: Unknown, but very kind stranger gave me ice cream, said “I love you” when I needed it. And then vanished.

There was this kid I used to hang out with when was around 8 yo, and it still obsesses me

He wasn’t from my school, and neither was he in the only other school in town, one day he just showed up at the end of school day and played with my friends and I, just like kids do

He was really nice, polite, clean but he just seemed to have no family. He would never talk about his parents and avoided conversations about family. There was some sort of orphanage nearby but friends who lived there said that he didn’t live with them.

He was weird but in a… weird way. He was nice and fun, yet really mature for a 8yo kid. He had this emotional intelligence, he understood people, talked very well about the others’ feelings but barely showed his. He had this strange aura. He would start really deep conversations, that were oddly deep for kids our age. He also had a smooth voice, at an age when most of the kids have a voice that tempt adults to make em mute. One day, one of my friends lost his grandma and he found oddly accurate words to reassure him, that scene is still in my head to this day. On the other hand, he knew no cultural stuff. Every film, cartoons, comics, tv shows, he wouldn’t know. We showed him stuff like WWE, Dragon Ball and other manga/anime and he became really fan.

The only times he would act childish was when we wanted to know more about his life. He would answer funny and barely comprehensive things like some kids do. Today I’m a hundred percent sure he did that on purpose.

I really looked up to him although he was no leader or whatever. He was weird in a cool way, or cool in a weird way, at an age when a weird kid is just a weird kid no one wants to fw. He felt out of this world to me.

My mother had a strange feeling about him, and years later asked her about him and she told me that she couldn’t do anything because he was so nice and polite, but to her he wasn’t a child and seemed really weird.

He just hung out with my friends and I for about a year, I have great memories with him and I feel like he taught us much. One day he just stopped coming to play in our neighbourhood and no one saw him again

I have more anecdotes about him, and as time passes more things feel wrong/weird to me. I have a deep feeling that I met someone too special or whatever, I’m not that much into supernatural stuff yet I could start believing in lot of things just because of this kid.

There was a young woman, about my age at that time (early 20’s), sitting alone at a nearly empty coffee shop. She seemed like she was trying not to cry, so I went over and asked if I could sit with her.

We talked for hours. About everything and nothing at the same time. She didn’t go into detail about what was going on with her, but she felt like there was no hope.

I did my best to encourage her; told her not to give up. Tried to give her reasons to hold on, thought of ideas that might give her a spark of hope.

The coffee shop was closing. I wrote my phone number down and told her that I would love to hang out with her again. And she could call me anytime. She looked at me and told me that everything I said to her wasn’t for her to hear, it was for me. I hadn’t told her that I was in fact suicidal. I had originally gone to the coffee shop to think about how to best kill myself. While talking to her, I figured if I could maybe help someone else not feel the way I do, I wouldn’t kill myself, at least not yet.

She not only saved my life that day, but gave my whole life a new purpose filled with hope. I’m a therapist now, I help people all day.

She hugged me then walked out the door. I ran after her because she forgot the napkin with my number on it. I was no more than 2 seconds behind her. I got outside and there was no one there.

One evening in winter I didn’t leave work till almost 7pm, so I was walking home and thought fuck it I’ll cut through the park to get home quicker, even though it’s really poorly lit. A couple of minutes into the park I could hear a group of people behind me and in front of me and was thinking “fuck I’m going to be jumped”, up ahead there was a lamp post with a CCTV camera on it so thought I’ll stop there and at least I’ll get jumped on camera. As stood beneath this light, this really tall woman jogged over and stopped next to me, I’m six feet tall and she was way taller than me. She asked me “is it okay if I walk with you?” and I was like sure okay I guess. She walked with me to the edge of the park, talking about how dodgy the park was at night, as soon as we got to the edge of the park, she told me to have a good night then jogged back into the park. It was a really weird experience, I felt certain I would have been mugged or something if she wasn’t there. I walked through that park every day for about a year and never saw her again.

The Cheltenham Ghost (Real woman in Black? )

The morton ghost later known as the cheltenham ghost was an apparition said to haunt a house in cheltenham, Western England.

The sightings started occurring during 1882 in the Despard family, who lived there at that time. The daughter was first to encounter the spirit. She had heard someone at the door, when she went to check, she found nobody there. While returning she saw the figure of a tall lady dressed in black, standing at the top of the stairs. The figure began to descend the stairs but vanished in thin air.

Most of the sightings occurred between 1882 and 1886 after which the sightings became uncommon. At the time when the sightings were frequent at least seven people saw the apparition while many others heard unexplainable noises.

The eldest daughter “Rose” saw the figure many times and described it in detail in her diary. Other sisters also saw the apparition but at different times and only when they were alone. The ghost would never show up in front of more than one person at a time. Once all four sisters saw the figure in quick succession separately on the route from the drawing room to the orchard. The father could never see the apparition even if it was standing beside him. In total 17 people saw the apparition and each and everyone of them claimed that they mistook it for a living person as it was not like a transparent figure but a solid lifelike being.

Thales Rodrigues de Miranda

The society for physical research investigation did a research about the history if the house and found out that the ghost was a housewife that used to live there in 1860. Nobody knows what happened to her and she became an apparition. Years later the house was turned into a boarding school and there were stories of sightings in the corridor, stairs and in the garden. The book ‘Apparitions of the dead’ is inspired from the Cheltenham ghost and contains complete details of the hauntings.

Princess theatre, Melbourne

Mat connolley

The princess theatre is a 1488 seat theatre in Melbourne’s East End theatre district, Australia and is the oldest entertainment site there.

The theatre started in 1854 by the name of Astley’s amphitheater. In 1857,the name was changed to princess theatre. Since then it has been owned by multiple people and has been torn down and rebuilt multiple times. The last extensive renovation was in 1986,when David Mariner purchased the theatre.

On March 1888, Gounod’s opera “Faust” was being run at the theatre. Frederick baker under the stage name of Frederick federici was performing the role of Mephistopheles. The production was to end with Mephistopheles sinking dramatically through a trap door to signify him returning to the fires of hell with his prize, the unfortunate Dr Faustus. As he was being lowered down to the basement, he had a heart attack and died immediately inside the basement. He couldn’t come to the stage to take his bows and nobody knew about it. When the opera ended, the company came to know about the tragic incident. However, the company and all the stage staff swore that he had been with them during the bows. Nearly everybody on the stage had seen him taking his bows.

This was the first ever sighting of his ghost. Many people have reported of seeing the ghost since then. Sometimes he could be spotted sitting on one of the chairs watching the show. As a sign of respect for many years on opening night a seat would be left for frederici in the dress circle. His ghost was considered as a sign of good luck for the play. Some people have spotted him sitting in the dress circle well dressed, while others have seen him on stage. Some people have witnessed mysterious lights passing through the corridors.
In 1970s during the making of a documentary film, pictures we’re taken. One picture revealed an ashen faced transparent figure. Everybody working at the theatre has experienced some kind of activity at the theatre. They have made peace with it and doesn’t want it to go away.

Wayside inn, longfellow

Daderot/ Wikimedia commons

Wayside inn was built in 1707 in Sudbury, Massachusetts. It was originally built as a house but in 1716 it was partially converted into an inn by the owner. It is one of the oldest inn’s in the United States, so naturally it is considered extremely haunted. The inn was passed down for four generations within the family who made several additions and the name was changed several times.

Bar room

The inn was sold to Henry Ford in 1923 who did several notable renovations which you can see up to this day.

Those who have stayed there, have reported numerous paranormal occurrences. The rooms 9 and 4 are said to be the ones where most of the activity takes place. The spirit of Jerusha Howe (sister of one of the owners) or as people believe it to be, has been sighted by many people. Sometimes inside their rooms, people would feel a strong presence and would see mysterious glows as soon as they would wake up from their sleep. People staying there would sometimes smell a faint perfume smell near the stairway. Sometimes they would feel the touch of an invisible force.

The spirit is an active presence at the inn and since 1900s a ‘secret drawer society’ has been formed by the people. Plain notes are left by the staff members in drawers and several other places so that whenever someone experiences some kind of paranormal activity within the inn, they can write their experience immediately and add it to the inn’s collections. It is believed that Jerusha lived her whole life and died waiting for her beloved, so now even her spirit lingers around the hotel waiting for her love. The inn is now a part of charitable Trust and works both as an inn and a museum.

Alcatraz Island

Alcatraz island is located near the san fransisco bay, San Fransisco, California. The island was named “La Isla de los Alcatraces” ( island of the pelicans) by a Spanish explorer Juan Manuel de Ayala in 1775.

Mike lee

In the 1950s the island was reserved for military use due to its safe location and the army built a fortress and installed cannons to protect the San Fransisco bay, several weapons were kept there for safe keeping. By the late 1950s the island started housing war criminals or military prisoners. As the island was isolated from the mainland by the strong cold waters of the bay, it was an ideal location to hold the prisoners as nobody would dare run away from the prison and if the prisoners would try to run away it’s very unlikely that they can swim through the cold and strong currents of the bay.

Alcatraz basement @TheeCakee

It was converted to federal prison in 1934 and during its operation housed some of the most dangerous inmates most notably “Al Capone” and “Robert Stroud”. A maximum security facility was opened and the prisoners were subjected to adverse living conditions with little to no benefits. The cells were really small and the inmates were sometimes not even let out of prison for more than a week. Many prisoners committed suicide or were killed by other inmates. People who tried to run away would either be captured, shot dead or would drown. Inmates were subjected to a lot of torture.

Alcatraz was shut down in 1963 after 29 years of operating as a federal prison because of the high operating costs and the buildings were deteriorating faster because of the salty sea water. It now operates as one of the most famous tourist attractions in San Fransisco and a lot of tourists visit the island. Due to its brutal history the island is considered to be one of the most haunted locations in the world.

istolethetv/ Wikimediacommons

Tourists have seen or heard things on the island that can only be attributed to the supernatural. Even when the prison was in operation the guards would often witness paranormal activity. The inmates who were not able to flee the island during their life were doomed on the island even after their deaths and the island became a hub of tortured and broken souls. People visiting there have heard unexplainable sounds, cell doors closing or crashing, footsteps and even unearthly screams. There is always an intense feeling of being watched and as there is a lot of negative energy people can sometimes feel this energy and will sometimes have to leave a certain area as they are not able to withstand that energy and they would feel that it’s choking them. Paranormal investigators often visit the island and they are overwhelmed by the mysterious activity and energy on the island.

Tim wilson

Some of the most haunted locations are the hospital, the laundry room and cell block c, however the most haunted among these haunted locations is the D cell block also known as the solitary confinement. People who go there can often feel the air becoming thick around them and can feel the vibrations in their body. It is as if they are not alone and surrounded by a group that they cannot see. Rangers who have to look after the island refuse to go inside the solitary confinement alone.

Alcatraz outside area @Bigmacthealmanac

According to one guard who was at the prison during its operation, one inmate was sent to solitary confinement, within a few minutes the man started screaming that a tall figure with ghostly eyes was attacking him. The guards thought of these as desperate cries in order to get out of solitary confinement. However, the Screaming carried on throughout the night and suddenly there was a complete silence. In the morning he was found strangled to death. People believed that he was killed by an evil spirit and the mystery continued to the next day when the guards counting the inmates counted more people than the total number of inmates present. Everyone was stunned but the figure that the guard had counted vanished in thin air.

Alcatraz library Tim wilson

People who visited the island have heard constant whispering, footsteps, foul smell, moaning and even saw a figure with glowing eyes from far away. Some people have even reported being touched when they have trying to sit inside a cell alone. The island is shrouded with mystery but it still remains one of the most visited public attractions around San Fransisco.

Solitary confinement also known as the hole.

When was a teen a bunch of my friends went through a Wiccan phase. I honestly thought it was a bunch of hooey, but played along for the most part, because hey they could’ve got into drugs or horses instead right?
But despite thinking it bullshit there was one moment that made me question things. Us girls had met up to hang out, and one was brandishing a wooden walking stick. have poured my energy into this totem,” she declared, then started passing it around the room. The others cooed about how they could “feel the power within” as they held it. Course someone handed me the stick eventually. could barely contain my eye roll as took it. As I held the walking stick it sent a tingling sensation up my arms.
passed it on quickly. Not as dramatic as some of the stories here, but gosh that was wierd.

r/Snicklefritz646 This happened a few years ago. I was on a dating site and matched with an attractive person. So, started chatting. We made it to the “plans tonight?” part of the conversation and she told me she was going to play hide and seek with ‘Fluffy”. Pointing out the item in their second profile picture, a bloody rabbit mask. Eh, ok let’s be weird. So,l played along until she mentioned that they would be playing in my basement. thought “How in the hell? Eh, wild guess probably.” lied and told her didn’t have a basement. Immediately, she texted ‘Oh Yeah?” and heard “Snnnniicccckkkllleeeffffrrriittttzzzzz” booming from the basement. won’t lie to you Reddit, I about shit myself. Obviously, I blocked her and froze for an hour before gathered the courage to check my completely enclosed from the outside basement. didn’t find anything, thankfully. I didn’t have a smart device at all and I didn’t have any speakers that could have been hacked. didn’t even have wireless internet at the time. The basement was completely empty. can’t explain it in the slightest.

Not sure if this counts but: When was in high school had this sudden bout of nightmares and sleep paralysis. I wasn’t going through a stressful time or anything and don’t freak out easily. I grew up watching 80’s and 90’s horror films and I normally sleep with total darkness and doors closed. These nightmares were super sudden and happened almost every night. It was constant sleep paralysis where my room was on fire, or there were bats thrashing around above me, or there was a figure hovering over my body and I couldn’t breathe (the classic). Sometimes my speakers let out strange frequency type sounds even when it was switched off. Things would fall off my shelves etc. My mom would always find me sleeping on the couch the next morning with the tv on because it was so crazy. Suddenly it all stopped, and when told my mom She admitted that she had seeked advice from a priestess who engraved a blessing for me on a silver pendant and instructed my mom to place it in my room. She didn’t want to tell me to see if it would work. I’ve never had such episodes since.

This is a pretty mundane story, but feel it captures something of what ‘real’ magic might be like.
used to work in an occult bookstore. We sold mostly psychic nonsense and spiritualist new agey stuff. But there was a book case in the back with the real expensive stuff. And the owner was this real old, real wise man.
This woman used to come in when was working and she’d just talk. For ages and ages. It wasa non-stop stream of bullshit. She knew this, she did that, did you know about this, on and on. She’d suck up a ton of time. If you’ve ever heard the term energy vampire it would apply here. When she left you’d just feel drained.
One day she comes in while the owner is there. She walks up to the counter and starts her shtick and he’s very polite, and listening, but she just sort of runs out of steam. Like, within 60 seconds. She hums and haws a bit and then walks out of the store. It would usually take me an hour to get rid of her and he shut her down in a minute flat, with a smile on his face. I mention it to him and he says, “There’s a circle of protection painted under the floor for a reason.”

While in africa had heard rumors of witchcraft and lighting, belived none of it. One day while has doing humanitarian work in a township (basically big subdivisions of small cinderblock houses) saw a huge red bolt of lighting come out of the sky and hit a shack off in the distance, not a cloud in sight, still have no explanation of how TF that happened, everyone in the township said witchcraft. And gotta say that along with lots of other crap saw ama full believer that witchcraft exists.

When I was about 6 or 7 years old I ran into my bedroom to play, but when went past my bed saw a gray man in tattered gray clothes. He was wearinga beat up trench coat, a white shirt and some plain gray slacks. He looked absolutely terrified that I had seen him. I ran out of the room to find my parents and never saw the dude again. btw does anybody have extra subs I might follow for more of this kind of thing?

was into witchcraft for a little while in high school. was a white witch (or at least trying to be) and got really into tarot cards. Being a dumb teenager didn’t know how to properly use them and instead of using them as an extension of my subconscious, I instead thought of them as their own entity. I would speak to them as if they were they’re own person. I never got good readings from them. After a while of using them, would have a feeling of something watching me around my house especially at night. It would follow me around the house and would be in my closet when I would go to bed. The feeling of anxiety and dread that felt kept getting worse and worse to the point where I wouldn’t sleep at night. At some point stopped practicing and it didn’t go away. It would take a solid few months until it stopped. After it stopped, I went to look for my cards and my crystals. I could not find them. To this day, 5 years later, I still have no idea what happened to them. I have no doubt in my mind that whatever was following me had something to do with it. Tbh when go to my parents house even now still feel like it’s watching me, but it’s not as intense as before.

An uncle of mine committed suicide so the islands witch doctors did this ritual with fire and my uncles face clear as day came out of the fire screaming at us. I don’t really believe in pagan stuff but this kind of made me believe in it.

got into Leveyan Satanism about 2 or 3 years ago and in the book there’s a section that said “don’t pray to the devil himself” or something like. So one night did and nothing happened. A few weeks later had the most vivid dream that stuck with me even to this day. In the dream I’m in one of my old high school classes but all the seats are empty except for the one next to me. I turn my head and see a super muscular guy in a blackt shirt say “| heard you’ve been trying to reach me” at which point his skin turns into a darker color and gets even bigger. We had a long conversation and at the end said “what a waste of time” after said was leaving. Once open the door and take one step out everything was pitch black, silent and cold. What really creeped me out is that at the time was abusing a couple of drugs, so one time my heart completely stopped beating for a few seconds asI was sitting in bed. remember seeing that same door, the pitch black, freezing feeling before my heart started beating again. Doubt it’s related but it totally creeped the hell out of me.

Boy Scout lane (Wisconsin)

Boy Scout lane is a haunted road in portage county, Wisconsin. The area is a hub of paranormal activity and attracts a lot of paranormal fanatics. The road is known as Boy Scout lane because the area adjoining the road was once owned by the Boy Scouts of America who wanted to build a scout camp there. The land surrounding boy scout lane is now privately owned and is out of limits for the general public.

According to several urban legends, during the 1960s a group of boy Scouts while camping there died mysteriously. Some stories claim that they were murdered by their scoutmaster while others suggest that they were murdered by their bus driver.

According to one version of the legend, all the scouts died when their bus crashed and caught fire, but one of the most famous legend is that all the scouts dissapeared in thin air without any trace except two boy scouts who escaped and got lost in the forest eventually dying of starvation.

It is believed that the ghosts of the boy scouts haunt the road and the forest surrounding it. People can hear them hiking through the woods or their lights can be seen at night as they seek help for their fellow scouts. Stories started circulating about visitors reportedly hearing the sound of footsteps, a strong feeling of bring watched, breaking branches from multiple directions, sightings of red or white lights bearing resemblance to swinging lanterns, ghostly buses or figures and childlike handprints on cars passing from there. A family was passing from there and saw what looked like a face on the window of their car, they sped up the car and moved out of there quickly. The road is considered to be one of the most haunted roads attracting paranormal investigators.

According to some people there are no records of any such deaths in the area and everything is just a hoax. But the truth is that the stories still persist and people keep on visiting the place in the hopes of catching some kind of paranormal activity.

Mystery of the chase vaults

Chase vault is located in Christ Church parish church in Oistins, Christchurch, Barbados. The place is best known for a mysterious legend of the moving coffins. According to the legend, each time the vault was opened, all the coffins would have changed their positions. The vault was a heavily sealed one and whoever had to go inside the vault had to remove a huge marble slab in order to get inside. The Chase family bought the vault in the 1800s, soon after 3 family members died in quick succession from one another. Thomas chase, the man of the family also committed suicide and was buried there. After that whenever the vault was opened for another burial or maintenance, the coffins despite being really heavy were found scattered around as if they were thrown away by someone from their original place. The family believed it to be the work of vandals, however no footprints or any other signs of break in were ever found. The coffins would then be moved to their original positions, but the same thing would happen every time the vault would be reopened. The legend spread all around the town like wildfire. People began talking about the reason for this mysterious activity. The most famous and widely believed explanation was that a curse has been put on the family using black magic.

Highgate cemetery

In the early 19th century, there was a lack of burial places in London. That coupled with the high mortality rate created a lot of problems.

There were many illegal burials within the city. People were buried in the graves that were not deep enough and quicklime was thrown on the bodies to speed up decomposition so that the grave can be used for burial again. Due to overcrowded graves there was a widespread bad smell and in turn a lot of diseases were spread leading to more deaths.

David Vincent/ unsplash

The Highgate cemetery was built in 1839 to tackle these problems. It was constructed in Victorian Gothic style. Within the next 4-5 decades the cemetery consisted of more than 10000 graves which included some of the most famous figures, the most prominent among them being Karl marx.

Stuart timms

The cemetery became abandoned in 1960 when the London cemetery company declared bankruptcy and the gates of the cemetery were closed.

LaikaLaika ac

By 1970,it was a wildly overgrown jungle. When hammer movie studio used the cemetery for its gothic horror movie shooting, the press rekindled their interest in the cemetery.Rumors started flowing like wildfire. Many people reported seeing men dressed in black robes who had started using the abandoned cemetery to practice dark rituals. The local newspaper, highgate express started receiving letters from frightened individuals who had gone through a ghostly encounter outside the cemetery. People reported seeing an apparition with red eyes glaring at them through the gates of the cemetery. This apparition came to be known as red eyed demon after many reported sightings.
Another man while walking down the lane was knocked down by a mysterious creature which seemed to glide off the walls of the cemetery. The creature dissolved in thin air when an oncoming car shone its headlights on the man.

The most famous legend is of the Highgate Vampire. The Highgate vampire is rumored to be a medieval nobleman who practised black magic in Romania and whose coffin was relocated from continental Europe to England in the 18th century by his followers, who bought a house for him at West End and buried him there. Eventually that place was occupied by Highagate cemetery. He laid there peacefully for a while until according to one Sean Manchester, santanists performed a ritual and woke him up. The Highgate vampire is reported to be a tall, dark figure that glides through the cemetery. His presence leads to a sudden drop in temperature, he has reportedly caused the watches and clocks to stop. His presence terrifies all the animals. He has a hypnotic stare and a bone chilling effect on those who have encountered him. People have reported hearing unexplainable sounds at night including screams from the cemetery. During the 1970s people walking past the cemetery at night would see this entity inside the graveyard. Several animals were also found dead and drained of blood near the gates of Highgate cemetery. The legends revolving around the cemetery only grew in the following years.

Highgate cemetery is reportedly the most haunted cemetery in the world and people are still debating about the hauntings.

Native Americans of Reddit describe their tribes ghost stories, legends, or supernatural occurrences

I’m Ts’mshian and we seem to have a lot of shapeshifters which some are uhh…. Questionable.

I think a lot of them are similar to the idea of skinwalkers, but some of the shapeshifters (like raven) have been a huge part of getting the things we need like the moon and stars (although mostly through… trickery). I’ve known some people who swear they’ve come into contact with shapeshifters that usually end up being like a mimic of someone they know (usually somekne with them) but are often faceless. There was apparently a ghost war once. Mosquitoes were once a bloodthirsty group of people.

Uktena. It’s a legend about a horned snake in Tsalagi (Cherokee) legend. Uktena is said to be very large and round like a tree trunk, with horns on his head. The only way to wound him is to shoot at a singular spot on his forehead that emits bright light. It’s similar to a diamond. If you defeat Uktena, you become a miracle worker. A great warrior. Yet, once you see the light of his forehead, you run toward it instead of trying to escape. Even to see Uktena sleeping is death. Not to the hunter, but to his family.

The Raven Mocker was our version of the bogeyman. The most feared of the Cherokee witches, they prey on the sick and dying. They eat the heart of their victim and add years to their life for every year their victim would have lived.

‘The flame walker.

Spirits who take the form of a small blue flame, that leads people into the swamps and bogs, where they eventually drown or otherwise vanish. (yes they are basically will-o-wisps)

Another are the ‘Water Faced hunters’ (again rough translation, and i am not heavily involved with my tribe these days).

These creatures have a face that acts like a pool of water, reflecting the face of anyone who looks them in the ‘eyes’. They mercilessly hunt down the people who ‘acknowledge them’. The only way to avoid them is to not speak to, or others interact with a stranger unless you can see their face from the corner of your eye.

We also have the more traditional skinwalker type legends, as well the Bogmen. My Tribe is considered part of the Abenaki, but are actually a smaller ‘sub tribe’ basically when it came down to it, there were not enough of the tribe to actually be considered a tribe anymore. Today we number fewer than 200, and only 8 of those are more than half blooded. My bio father and his brother, as well as my paternal grandparents are the last 4 full blooded of my tribe.

We have a spirit similar in aboriginal culture. Its called a mimi spirit. Basically when you go walk about this spirit (day or night) will try and trick you into following it. It will appear, you walk to it and its vanished. It will appear again, you again follow it for it to disappear. Repeat this multiple times and you are lost forever.

I was 7 when I first actually met an elder whos son was taken by the mimi spirit. Ill never forget her broken face when she told my class.

I feel like I may be late but I have a lot of aboriginal myths. Most are old tales that involve magic or giants, taking animals. Cunning ravens, the birth of the Tli Cho people; but more sinister of tales, the Nahga. The aboriginal version of Bigfoot.

I also know of an Inuktitut take about witches that live under the ocean called the Qallipiliuit.

I’m a northern Canadian with an aboriginal father and a white mother. The tales heard where either from teachers, grandparents, or friends who have embraced their culture.

So let me know if you want to hear some stories

Dene from northern British Columbia here, my mom used to always tell me stories of the Nehgunni, or bushmen/wild-men when I was young, they were people who lived in the forest and took away people who wandered too far out, specifically children.

I always figured these stories were created by my people to serve two purposes, first to teach young children to not wander far off, and second to give explanations to kidnappings done by other tribes, which was a fairly common occurrence even up until the early to mid 20th century, my grandmothers brother was taken by Cree from Alberta and raised by them. They had assumed he had died until decades later when they were reunited and learned what had happened.

I’m Cherokee and growing up the Uktena (horned serpent) really freaked me out. The mountain my family lived on has these mysterious glowing lights that according to legend was from the Uktena trying to trick people into finding it. There is also Spearfinger, an old lady who can transform into your loved ones and eat your liver.

So the first one is called See-at-co (don’t know the translation in English). Lived at this lake and it’s was his spot, we DO NOT go there or he will kill you. Used to have nightmares about him based on what I was taught as a kid. Like how you could stand at the edge of the water and be looking in and he would come out of it and just grab you.

But then the mountain blew up and filled in the lake so don’t know if he’s still around or not.

The second I don’t remember the name but translated into to English is “dangerous being” who lives in rivers and drowns people. Anthropologists think it was our way of describing dangerous log jams and whirl pools in our river.
